Jeff Johnson's Updated Page

I am a research fellow with Earth Science and EOS at University of New Hampshire.  My research interests focus on understanding eruptive processes using integrated geophysical measurements and numerical modeling.  This approach has direct applications to volcano monitoring and hazard mitigation because it employs innovative and potent technologies, including seismic, acoustic, thermal, and video monitors, to quantify and track volcanic activity.  My previous studies have involved the construction and implementation of new instrumentation for the analysis of ongoing volcanic degassing from the volcanoes Karymsky, Sangay, Erebus, Pichincha, Tungurahua, Kilauea, Villarrica, Santiaguito, Fuego, Fuego de Colima, Popocatepetl, and Erta Ale.  Some of these projects were for scientific study, while others were related to volcanic crisis response.
